Free Backlink Monitor Tool — Log Your Links, Check They Are Still Live and See Cost Per Live Link
Keep a simple log of every backlink you earn, place or pay for. Paste a linking page's HTML to confirm your link is still there and read its rel attribute, and get live rate, referring domains and cost per live link. Your log stays in your browser: nothing is uploaded.
Add your first backlink to see totals.
Open the linking page, press Ctrl+U, copy the page source and paste it here. The tool looks for a link to your page and reads its rel attribute. It never visits any URL.
What the Backlink Monitor Tool Tracks
- Each link's source: placed by you, earned editorially or paid for, so your report never calls a listing an earned link
- Status: live, lost or not checked, updated when you paste the linking page's HTML
- Attribute: followed, nofollow, sponsored or ugc, read from the link's rel attribute
- Referring domains: the number of different sites, because ten links from one site are one source
- Cost per live link: total spend divided by links you have confirmed live
- Destination: how many links point to your home page and how many to inner pages
Why Log Links at All
Google's Search Console shows a sample of the sites that link to you, but it does not tell you how a link was acquired, what it cost or whether a particular page still carries it. A log answers those questions. It also helps you follow Google's guidance: its spam policies list buying or selling links for ranking purposes as link spam, and its guidance on qualifying outbound links asks that paid placements carry rel="sponsored". A record of which links were paid and how they are marked makes it easier to keep to that.
How to Use the Log
- Add every link when you get it. Use the type that is true: placed, earned or paid.
- Check it after a few weeks. Open the linking page, paste its source into the checker and confirm it is live and what the rel says. Pages can change.
- Review monthly. Look at live rate, cost per live link and whether links point only at your home page.
- Download the CSV to keep a copy or to share with a client.
For link attributes on a whole page, use the dofollow link checker or the outbound link checker. For link text, use the anchor text checker, and to work out what a campaign costs before you start, use the link building cost calculator.
Backlink Monitor Tool FAQs
Does the tool find my backlinks automatically?
No. It is a log. You add links you know about, for example from Search Console or your outreach sheet, and check them by pasting the linking page's HTML.
Does it visit the linking pages?
No. It never fetches any URL. It reads only the HTML you paste, so it cannot tell you about a page you have not pasted.
Where is my log stored?
In your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded to any server, including ours. Clearing site data removes the log, so download the CSV for a backup.
What is cost per live link?
It is the total you spent divided by the number of links you have confirmed as live. It is more honest than cost per link ordered.
Why record how a link was acquired?
Because placed, earned and paid links carry different value and risk, and Google asks that paid placements be marked sponsored or nofollow. Keeping them apart avoids mislabelling.
Does this tool store or send my data anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript and is kept only in your own local storage.
